How to choose outdoor lenses for summer?
Summer is approaching in China. As temperatures gradually rise, beaches, cycling trails, and mountain hiking routes will soon be busiest places of the year. For people with nearsightedness, ordinary glasses are often insufficient to meet the multiple challenges of summer outdoor activities. So, how should one choose the right lenses for different outdoor activities as summer approaches?

UV protection is the core function of lenses and crucial for eye care in summer. Experts explain that the main harmful rays to the human eye are long-wave ultraviolet (UVA) and some medium-wave ultraviolet (UVB) rays. Qualified lenses must effectively block both types of radiation. It's important to note that UV protection is unrelated to the darkness of the lens tint. Many people mistakenly believe that "the darker the lens, the better the protection," but this is the opposite. Dark lenses dilate the pupils, allowing more UV rays to enter the eye and exacerbating damage to the lens and retina. This risk is even higher with low-quality dark lenses.
2.Different recommendations for different scenarios
①Running/Cycling/Road Bike
The main drawbacks of these types of sports are prolonged exposure to strong ultraviolet rays, glare from road surfaces or vehicles, and fogging of glasses. Polarized Lenses are very useful for these activities, effectively filtering glare and reducing eye strain. Photochromic lenses are also recommended, as they automatically adjust their tint to the light, offering significant advantages in environments with frequently changing light, such as tunnels or shady areas, eliminating the need for manual lens changes. Runners often experience glasses slipping after heavy sweating; lightweight resin lenses can reduce pressure on the bridge of the nose and decrease this slippage. However, it's not recommended to choose sunglasses with very dark tints, as poor visibility in shady or overcast conditions can impair judgment of road imperfections.

②Hiking/Off-road
In such situations, lenses are easily scratched by branches, rocks, etc., so it's crucial to choose lenses with high hardness and scratch resistance, such as hardened resin lenses. Of course, a high-quality scratch-resistant coating on the lens surface further enhances scratch resistance. 、
For specific scenarios, when hiking in the mountains, hardened PC polarized lenses are the best choice. They are lightweight, durable, impact-resistant, and scratch-resistant. Paired with brown or gray lenses, they can resist scratches from branches while filtering strong sunlight and glare, improving visibility in the forest. For off-roading, a combination of hardened resin and abrasion-resistant coating is recommended. These are scratch-resistant, dust-resistant, and suitable for complex outdoor terrain, preventing damage from branches and gravel, while also providing impact resistance to handle unexpected bumps and knocks during off-roading.

③Water sports
In these situations, lenses become foggy as soon as they get wet, and frequent wiping can damage the coating. Waterproof, anti-fog, and water-resistant polarized lenses should be chosen, in colors such as brown, gray, or blue. The lenses should also have a super-waterproof coating, allowing water droplets to roll off quickly and restore clarity with a gentle shake.
Going out and engaging in outdoor activities is a wonderful experience; don't let nearsightedness or unsuitable glasses spoil the fun.
Hopefully, this article will give you some inspiration for choosing lenses in the summer.
