Coating-Make Lenses Perfect
Coating-Make Lenses Perfect

Did you know that the optical glasses we usually wear are generally multi-layer structures? Whether buying glasses online or selecting glasses offline, we will see or hear functional descriptions such as anti-fog, anti-ultraviolet, anti-blue light, and dustproof. These functions of glasses are achieved by coating a certain thickness of single or multi-layer optical film on the surface of the lens by physical and chemical methods.
The following are common types and their functions.These information can help you better protect your eye health when purchasing lenses.
1. Classification by function
- Hard coating (anti-wear coating): It can effectively protect the lens surface from wear and tear, resist damage from hard objects, and extend the life of the lens. At present, silicon atoms are mostly used for hardening treatment, that is, a hardening liquid containing an organic matrix and inorganic ultrafine particles including silicon elements is used to make the hard coating have both toughness and hardness. For Resin Lenses with hard coating, they can be identified by the sound of knocking on the desktop and the color brightness of the lens. Lenses with crisp sounds and bright edges are hardened.

2.Hard Multi Coating (Anti-reflection coating) : also known as anti-reflection film, is based on the principle of light interference. It makes the reflected light of the mirror and the reflected light of the coating interfere with each other and eliminate each other. It also selectively eliminates the reflection of light in the corresponding band through different film layers to remove interference light, increase the visible light transmittance, and thus improve the quality of imaging.

3.SHMC coating (Super Hydrophobic Multi-Coating) is a super hydrophobic multi-layer composite coating technology, usually used for high-end lenses, combining the advantages of multiple coatings to provide more comprehensive protection and longer-lasting durability. The surface is extremely hydrophobic, the water droplet contact angle is large (similar to the lotus leaf effect), and it slides off quickly, and it is not easy to leave water stains, oil stains or fingerprints. The various layers of coating work synergistically to improve the overall performance (such as light transmittance, wear resistance)

- Anti-blue light Coating: effectively filters harmful blue light. Short-wave blue light is harmful light with a wavelength between 400nm-480nm and relatively high energy, mostly found in electronic products. The anti-blue light film can effectively filter the damage of short-wave blue light to the retina and play a certain protective role for the eyes.

5. Anti-radiation UV Coating: UV film is a special formula coated on the surface of divET/divO/divVC/EVA film substrate to block ultraviolet light and short-wavelength visible light. The E-sdivf double-sided anti-UV lens currently on the market uses an innovative film layer that can protect against ultraviolet rays from different directions. While blocking ultraviolet rays on the front surface, it absorbs ultraviolet rays emitted by the back surface.
6. Polarized Coating: reduces glaring reflected light and lights, and can effectively block glaring stray light from the water surface, snow layer, and car high beams at night.

2. Differentiation by color
1. Green Coating: Green Coating is the earliest film layer used. It was originally used to distinguish it from non-coated lenses. This film layer is the most standard film layer for reducing reflections. It should be said that it is a film layer that is currently used more commonly. At the same time, another function of this film layer is that it can have a certain degree of radiation protection function;
2. Blue Coating: In fact, the blue Coating is developed on the basis of the green coating. While reducing the green reflectivity, it also increases the reflectivity of blue light to a certain extent. It is a single-layer MGF film. In addition to preventing electronic radiation, this film layer can also effectively block ultraviolet rays and has a dual protection function;
3.Gold Coating: The main feature of the gold coating is that it reflects yellow light. The main function of the film layer is to prevent eye fatigue, thereby reducing the problem of eye fatigue when looking at things. And the light transmittance, wear resistance and easy cleaning of this film layer are better than other film layers.

Many people now have a misunderstanding that the color of the film layer determines the function of the film layer, which is very inaccurate. In fact, the color of different film layers has no necessary connection with their functions. The main functions of all coatings are to reduce reflections, improve lens clarity, waterproof, UV protection, radiation protection, etc., so that the wearer can see the real object more realistically and clearly.
